SHORT HISTORY of “la ressia”
The name "La Ressia" identifies the locations, but in particular this construction that, in recent times, was in fact used for the cutting of wood, the propulsion water using the dedicated duct that runs next has, for years moved to the blades tape used for this purpose.
During the restoration and reconstruction works carried out at the end of the last century, however, are other interesting findings came to light, which outline of the previous uses of such areas.
Unfortunately, the time references for correct dating of changes in use, are very few, the layering of found items, two dates engraved in the stone, the state of conservation, and popular memory, they deduce the following.
The original building is to be placed around the end of the sixteenth century, at the gates of the country, in an area rich in walnut trees, on the bank of the old course of the river Marderello, was built specifically to house a mill for the extraction of 'oil from the nuts, bears witness to the great basin of stone, found perfectly preserved in the center of the building, the circular stones of which an almost new are fully allocated within the main tank, and thus imagine the reconstruction of the entire site, at a later date, the seventeenth century, there was a change in order to grind wheat, this is probably due to the destruction by a flood, the main mill that was located further north on the river bank Cenischia two millstones, perfectly preserved, it can testify, the wooden stands that supported the mills are gone unfortunately, completely destroyed but is kept intact a counterweight stone engraved with the date of manufacture in 1610.
The eighteenth century the transformation in the sawmill, with the construction of a penstock metal with hot-riveted rivets, the transmission shafts and pulleys with belts used have not been preserved but suggest that a very complex system. In the early years of the twentieth century the electric propulsion transformation provided by the central Savoglio and fed by the first dam of the Mont Cenis.
The transformation of the building in the sawmill, partially modifies the right side of the building, to allow the positioning of the carriage of the transport timber, which was loaded from the side of the road and, through an opening similar to a balcony, transiting through the cutting blade .
The sawmill operation is continued until the end of the seventies, when it was then completely abandoned.
Completely rebuilt in the late nineties as possible while keeping the old structural setting and the original materials used to the old building, in 2003, finally, in the place where once there was the old band saw, the current store will be inaugurated "La Ressia "
