Novalesa its WaterFalls and Rock Drawings
At the center of Val Cenischia, 828 meters s.l.m., it stands Novalesa.
The name of Novalesa appears for the first time in 726 when Abo, governor of Moriana and Susa, founded the Abbey for the care of the sick and assistance to the pilgrims who were passing at that time along the way to France.
The history and development of Novalesa after the first few centuries of life lived in the shadow of the great monastery, were closely related to the presence of the road, along the course of the Dora Riparia first and Cenischia stream later, it crossed the Alps on Mont Cenis Pass . The stop was mandatory, you had to hire the brown, remove the carriages, wait for time to allow the crossing of the crossing trip.
The development of trade and traffic along this road he saw the economy grow and increase to Novalesa when, during the Napoleonic era, was built a new road traced to France, which excluded the Cenischia val and then Novalesa.
But this isolation has allowed this small village to maintain over time all its characteristics and traditions.
Today is a holiday resort, surrounded by beautiful mountains and surrounded by nature, just 828 m s.l.m., is ideal place to stay during all times of the year.
Novalesa is surrounded by numerous waterfalls.
The main and the most spectacular is the waterfall of the rio Claretto, with a jump of over 100 mt.

Other spectacular waterfalls are the ones you see in the pictures on this page; their names are:
waterfall of rio Marderello, the stream waterfall Cenischia and waterfall of the Rio Bar.
From a certain position the rock above the river Marderello waterfall looks like the head of a Native American Indian.

The artifact that you can see in the pictures on this page is little known but extremely interesting (GRCM, 1988).
Face engraved is a small part, shaped as a wedge, an isolated rock surrounded by pasture.
The incision is not immediately visible in all its complexity: it appears in fact consumed and with weak tilting walls. But there are four concentric circles with central little cup, and after a careful examination turn out to be surrounded by a fence complex of canals and twenty cups, not all affected by canals, and found only at the top. It 'a type currently unique in the area, while in its vicinity there are two other rocks bearing each, on flat surface, about twenty regular cups.
